Welcome to Mangia Wine Bar

What started in 1988 with only nine tables and Kenosha’s only authentic wood-burning oven has grown to the area’s premiere rustic Italian restaurant with a touch of modern. Mangia offers exceptional seasonal menus, fine wine lists and quality service that customers have come to expect and enjoy.

Originally opened by brothers Gino and Tony along with their father Gene ‘Gig’ Mantuano, Mangia expanded in 1990, combining three small buildings with an outdoor dining garden patio. In 1992, Susan Mantuano-Tishuk joined as part owner and manager. Fast forward to 2014 as a third generation, Tre Mantuano took the lead as Restaurant Manager at the newly remodeled Mangia Wine Bar. We are thankful for our past and look forward to the future.

As an Italian-American with origins in the hidden gem region of Molise, Cathy Mantuano is passionate about wine, food and Italy. She has traveled the length and width of the Italian peninsula and enjoys discovering new aspects of the wine, culture, and cuisine with every visit. Cathy currently lives in Chicago, Illinois, and is a wine consultant as well as the author of the popular cookbooks The Spiaggia Cookbook – Eleganza Italiana in Cucina and Wine Bar Food. Cathy and her husband Tony Mantuano are also known for their restaurants dedicated to expressing authentic Italian ingredients and cuisine, including the James Beard multiple nominee Spiaggia and other Chicago-based locales such as Bar Toma and Terzo Piano.

Tony Mantuano is the co-owner of his family’s Mangia Wine Bar, an informal wine bar and classic Italian restaurant in his hometown of Kenosha, Wisconsin. He oversees the menu and operations, plus special events, including the annual Masters of the Grill which has taken place at Mangia over the past 22 years.

He is also the chef/partner at Spiaggia, one of the country’s leading restaurants and Chicago’s only four-star Italian restaurant, and has been awarded the 2005 James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef Midwest. In 2014 Spiaggia will celebrate its 30th Anniversary.

Mantuano’s love for creating exciting restaurant concepts has given way to other ventures. In addition to Spiaggia, he is chef/partner of Lorenzo, a casual elegant Italian restaurant in Miami adjacent to the Redbury South Beach Hotel that opened in November 2013. He is also Chef/Partner at Bar Toma, a long-time dream to create an Italian neighborhood pizzeria and bar; chef/partner at Terzo Piano, a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant that utilizes fresh, local, organic ingredients to create seasonal menus at The Modern Wing of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Mantuano’s first cookbook The Spiaggia Cookbook was lauded by Food & Wine magazine as one of the top 25 cookbooks of 2004. In 2008 Mantuano co-authored Wine Bar Food with wine expert and wife Cathy Mantuano, which has been the inspiration for WINE BAR FOOD outposts at the 2008-2013 US Open Tennis Championships in New York.

Mantuano is most often recognized as one of the Champions on season two of Bravo’s “Top Chef Masters” and has made other television appearances including “Nightline”, “The Today Show”, “The Early Show” and “Martha” and has been featured in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Chicago Tribune, Food & Wine, La Cucina Italiana, Bon Appétit and Wine Spectator, among others.

Restaurant Manager

Tre Mantuano was born and raised in Kenosha, Wisconsin. His passion for food and wine started with family dinners created by his father, wine and food guru, Gino Mantuano. Tre’s professional career began with working at Mangia Trattoria in Kenosha, creating pizzas, serving guests and overseeing offsite private events.

Most recently, Tre has refined his skills providing memorable service at his uncle Tony Mantuano’s Bar Toma in Chicago, Illinois. Currently, Tre has been promoted to Restaurant Manager at the newly remodeled Mangia Wine Bar. He graduated with a Business Management degree from the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
